Hi! I'm Eri, the owner of Elevie Japan!
In Japan, I grew up with a mother who was always crocheting! This is where my love for crochet began.
As I got older and became more interested in fashion, I decided to go to fashion school, where I learned more crochet techniques as well as other fiber mediums like sewing, embroidery, and lace tatting. However, I kept coming back to crochet!
To the people around me in fashion, crochet had the reputation of being an "old lady" hobby, and that's where part of my inspiration came from: one of my passions is showing people that crochet is versatile, fashionable, and for everyone!
During the pandemic, I married an American and moved to North Carolina. While I studied English, I began to mix my passion for crochet with my adjustment to a new, different culture. I learned that in the USA, unlike in Japan, children often keep special items into adulthood. I began making African Flower Animals for this reason, and my crochet business took off!
I built a team of four women, most of whom are immigrants like me. We met each other through English language classes, and together, we've built a business that sells unique, fashionable crochet items while also teaching others to create these items for themselves.
I hope our colorful creations bring you as much joy as they bring us!
Love,
Eri
